I'd like to leave an after glow of smiles
when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering
softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.

Sometime at eve when the water is low
I shall slip my moorings and sail away

Halo of golden hair, eyes of violet blue
Soft ivory skin--tanned a golden hue
A California child, kissed by the Cali Sun—
Alyson--Unique, an original, the only one
Heart of a lion, spirit of a fawn
A child of the morning

Two years have passed. Everything has changed: everything stays the same. I am here. You are not.
Two memories from your childhood define for me, who you were when you came to us, and who you remained..
At age 5 you called me at the dojo to tell me you had fired your babysitter. I was in Fresno. You were home in Madera. You locked yourself in my bedroom to call. You excitedly explained Kristin was talking on the phone “all day,” You asked “ten times” for dinner. She kept talking. You told her you were going to call me. She took the phone from your room, and said she was going to spank you.. You lokced yourself in our bedroom, upstairs. When she hung up to come get you. You called.
I asked to talk to Kristin. You agreed after I promised to come home, and to tell her she cannot “hit.”
I came home. Seated together you told your story, and Kristin told hers—ending with you fired her. She admitted to preventing you from calling by taking the phone, and also to threatening to spank you. I agreed you were correct. She was fired.
A few weeks later school started—1st grade, Berenda Elementary. After a few days, you wanted to walk to school with the older children next door. I wanted to drive you,on my way to FCC. Daddy wanted to walk with you. Instead, you walked and we watched you from the upstairs window of our room. About a month into 1st grade Daddy received a call at the dojo in Fresno. The school reported you missing. He was in Fresno. You were in Madera. The school was frantic. Police were notified. Daddy found you at home, eating a peanut butter sandwich and watching the Disney movie, Robin Hood. You had forgotten your lunch ticket, and decided to go home. You did not understand all the excitement. You kept repeating you were fine. I am not certain you ever understood.
